Peter Holmes was born and raised in the small NSW country town of Cootamundra. After finishing his secondary education in Cootamundra he obtained a degree from the Australian National University in Canberra before joining the Department of Defence in Canberra. He then travelled privately overseas for two years before returning to Australia. Since then he has worked for the U.S. government, international agencies, and various Australian government departments and organisations both in Australia and overseas in Ireland, Thailand, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. During the late 1970s he worked for the Australian War Memorial in Canberra where he first heard about Maurice Wilder Neligan. He now lives in South East Queensland where he continues to pursue his interest in writing and other activities.
